Equal Pay Day

Equal Pay Day Event
April 9, 2013
5:30-7:30 pm
Oxbow Public Market
River Deck
644 1st St. Napa

The Napa branch of AAUW and Soroptimists International of Napa are hosting an event at Oxbow Public Market on April 9, 2013, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., to highlight Equal Pay Day, the date that symbolizes how far into 2013 women must work to earn what men earned in 2012.

The National Commission on Pay Equity originated the Equal Pay Day in 1996, as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between the wages of men and women.

C Casa, a woman-owned business in the Oxbow, will be offering discounts to women wearing our AAUW pass (available at our event at the Oxbow riverside deck at 5:30 p.m.).

With the Paycheck Fairness Act stickers, women will receive a 10 percent discount on all salads, soup, and chicken tacos and C Casa designated an additional 13 percent on those items for NEWS, the Napa Emergency Women’s Shelter. The total of 23 percent symbolizes the difference in the average wages of men and women in the United States.

The Program will begin at 6:15 pm. Our Napa City Mayor Jill Techel will make a few comments and present an award to the winner of the high school essay contest, who will then read their essay, “What does equal pay for equal work mean to me?” Information about the pay gap issue and legislation will also be available.
